Landmark Cinemas is hosting the April Movie Break event to feature exclusive box-office films for $3 from April 15 to April 19 in Fort McMurray.

April Movie Break is a fundraising event for Kids Help Phone and allows residents to enjoy a series of featured movies for a discounted price with $1 of each ticket going towards the cause.

This initiative takes place across Canada and correlates with the school districts’ Spring Break schedules. It took place in other provinces in March.

“We see a great synergy between Kids Help Phone and Landmark. We’re both aligned in supporting the mental health and well-being of youth across Canada,” said Landmark Cinemas Marketing & Promotions Manager Ashley Kruger.

In 1989, Kids Help Phone became a national charity. It opened its regional office in Calgary, Alberta in 1990.

According to the organization, it is “committed to improving youth emotional health and well-being by using actionable data and proven, innovative solutions to provide effective support – in any moment of crisis or need.”

Recent statistics indicate Alberta youth made 10,200 calls and 1,484 Live Chat counselling sessions throughout the province in 2017.

Last year, Kids Help Phone launched a text service trail in Manitoba through a partnership with Crisis Text Line, a non-profit organization in the United States.

Today, the Crisis Text Line powered by Kids Help Phone is now available across Canada. When youth text ‘TALK’ to 686868, they reach a volunteer Crisis Responder for support. This free service is confidential and available 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.

Crisis Text Line powered by Kids Help Phone is a free and confidential service available to Canada’s youth 24/7/365.

“For us, April Movie Break is not only supporting our young Movie Lovers but also our own cast and crew, a majority of which are youth,” said Kruger.

“This is a cause near and dear to us. Together, we support Kids Help Phone through our March Movie Break, Spring Coupon Book, and Walk So Kids Can Talk Programs.” , a non-profit organization in the United States.

The line-up of exclusive movies includes Aquaman, Bumblebee, Smallfoot and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. (Click the movie name for showtimes and to purchase tickets!)
