Fort McMurray movie-goers are raving with the news of Landmark Cinemas’ grand opening at The Commons in Eagle Ridge on November 9.

The highly-anticipated wait will soon be over as tickets will be available for residents to purchase online tomorrow. The last day to watch movies at Landmark’s downtown location is November 7.

The new facility will feature eight theatre auditoriums complete with Landmark’s new luxury recliner power seating. It will also allow theatre-goers to purchase their movie tickets in advance and select seating options.

“Get the seat you want before you arrive for the show. Our recliner experience features free reserved seating,” said Landmark Cinema’s National Brand Manager Ashley Kruger. “Plus, our recliners provide extra space to recline and even cuddle up. The aisles are wider, so you can easily move past reclined movie lovers. Wider aisles also mean you don’t have to worry about your seat being disturbed during the show.”

CEO of Landmark Cinemas Bill Walker stated in a release that the Canadian movie theatre chain is “excited” to bring a world-class movie theatre facility to Fort McMurray.

“We are incredibly excited to introduce the recliner movie-going experience to the residents of Fort McMurray,” Walker stated. “… it truly changes how people enjoy their night out at the movies. The community has served Landmark well in our downtown location over the past eleven years, and we are excited to welcome everyone to enjoy this new world-class, movie-going experience at the Commons in Eagle Ridge.”

Cole Harris, President and COO of Centron and owner of The Commons development said the opening of the new cinemas will be “an important milestone in realizing our vision of providing of Fort McMurray, and the surrounding areas.”

With eight theatres and 887 seats available, the cinema complex will also be introducing new food and beverage options.

“We are also introducing Coca-Cola Freestyle, which provides over 100 beverage options for movie lovers of all ages. We will also be introducing an extended concession menu including pizza, Pretzel Maker, Mrs. Fields, TCBY (The Country’s Best Yogurt) offerings, and we’ll be proudly brewing Starbucks coffee.”
