AB Education Minister Appoints Superintendent Turner to the Child/Youth Well-Being Panel
Fort McMurray Public School Division (FMPSD) congratulates Superintendent Jennifer Turner on being appointed to the Child and Youth Well-Being Review by Alberta Education Minister Adriana LaGrange. This is a panel of experts from across the province created to “better understand the full scope of the psychological, social, educational and physical effects related to the COVID-19 pandemic on children and youth,” as per the official website. The announcement was made late last week.
Superintendent Turner’s career in education spans over 26 years. A Registered Psychologist with both the College of Alberta Psychologists and the British Columbia College of Psychologists, she is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Educational Leadership at the University of Calgary with a specialization in District Leadership of Mental Health Promotion and Intervention. Her passion for children, youth and mental health amalgamates well for this appointment.
“We are extremely grateful to Superintendent Turner for sharing her experience as both an educator and a registered psychologist with the Child and Youth Well-being Review Panel. Her insight and expertise will be valuable in building an inclusive, comprehensive understanding of the impacts of the pandemic on Alberta’s kids and helping to develop the supports they need to emerge from the pandemic resilient, strong and healthy,” shared Rebecca Schulz, Minister of Children’s Services.
“I’m deeply grateful, and honoured. Thank you to Minister LaGrange and Minister Schulz for their trust in me. My entire career has been about the well-being of children, with a large focus on mental health. I look forward to learning from and sharing with this esteemed panel,” said Superintendent Turner.
As further explained officially, “The panel will engage with a wide range of Albertans, including researchers, educators, health care professionals, and mental health experts, as well as parents and kids…And, will learn from experts on ways to ensure children and youth have the tools they need to process and cope in healthy ways.”
Linda Mywaart, Chair, FMPSD Board of Trustees congratulated Superintendent Turner.

Her wide experience, knowledge, wisdom and integrity are all assets that she displays daily in her work for the students and staff of FMPSD, and we are confident that the panel and the province will also reap the benefits,” Chair Mywaart added.
In the community, Superintendent Turner serves on the Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo’s board, and the Wood Buffalo Community Foundation Community Grants Committee.
